Ei bine totul a inceput in dimineata lui 12 Iunie cand trebuia sa ma intalnesc cu Luana sa ajungem si noi la timp ca doar suntem oameni seriosi. Ajunsi la Hotel Pantex cu 10 minute intarziere am constatat  cu stupoare ca nu eram ultimii oameni veniti, dar printre primii. Dupa ce ne-a explicat Bobby ca o sa ii asteptam si pe ceilalti, care s-au anuntat, am schimbat o vorba doua cu cateva persoane. Una peste alta intr-un final am inceput workshopul.

Cine ce si de ce, ultimul blogtrip

Au vorbit Bobby, Dorin, Tudor, Bogdan si Adrian. Primul a fost Bobby care a vorbit despre Blogtrip, ce inseamna el si cum ar trebuii noi cei care participam la asa ceva sa incercam sa furam din experienta celor din jurul nostru. Am zis experienta, si zic experienta pentru ca din ce am vazut eu noi incercam sa cautam raspunsul la intrebarea “Ca sa fac asta … ce trebuie sa fac mai exact?” scurtatura catre marea lovitura, calea usoara catre obiectivul nostru. Este aproape imposibil sa ne raspunda cineva la intrebarea de mai sus. Tot ce pot oamenii din jurul nostru sa faca este sa ne arate o cale sa ne ajute cu un sfat si sa ne impartaseasca experienta lor, iar noi mai departe pentru ca suntem fiintele superioare pe acest pamant (desi incep sa ma indoiesc de asta) prin personalitatile noastre diferite si prin natura  noastra diferita de la individ la individ trebuie sa aranjam toate piesele pe care le avem in forma cea mai corecta pentru noi…

Bobby  a explicat pe final de ce face Ultimul Blogtrip ca si initiativa, si a punctat foarte clar si transant ca sa pricepem ca din peste 40 de oameni inscrisi nu au venit decat vreo 20. Eu il inteleg si ma mir cum de nu a pus piciorul in prag mai demult. Poate ca prin alte orase nu a fost ca la noi aici, poate ca deja un pahar sa umplut, e mai putin important, ce am inteles eu este faptul ca experienta se plateste scump daca vrei sa faci share si ii felicit pe cei care au profitat de ea cat a fost gratis.

Dorin, Marketing Afiliat

Dorin Boerescu ne-a vorbit despre Marketing Afiliat, ce presupune, ce este, cum poate fi folosit si cel mai important ce beneficii ne poate aduce pentru ca pana la urma asta cautam toti. Ca sa intelegem mai bine ce inseamna Dorin a incercat sa explice pentru muritorul de rand marketingul afiliat prin intermediul companiei pe care o conduce 2parale.ro si bine a facut.

Ce mi-a placut la prezentarea sustinuta de Dorin:

• Am inteles ce este Marketing Afiliat (suna banal, dar este ceva foarte important sa intelegi un lucru inainte sa te apuci sa il folosesti)
• Am inteles chiar daca off topic ce insemna persoana potrivita pe postul potrivit. Dorin stie sa vanda si cred ca asta spune totul.
• Exemplele bine alese. Am vazut ce se poate face cu 2parale si in general cu platformele de marketing afiliat. Pe scurt ca sa nu o lungesc, poti sa faci un magazin online fara ca tu sa ai nici macar cea mai vaga idee despre ce inseamna sa vinzi ceva, de la distributie pana la gestiune si toate asta  se fac folosind feeduri.
• Am bagat bine la cap faptul ca marketingul afiliat nu se face doar pentru magazinele mari care au produse de larg consum ci poate functiona pentru oricine

Ce nu mi-a placut la prezentarea sustinuta de Dorin:

• Sa lasat intrerupt de prea multe ori pe subiecte care nu aveau nici o legatura cu ce incerca el sa ne explice. Era clar ca omul incerca sa isi vanda platforma, dar o facea intr-un mod inteligent sa si pricepem de ce si nu erau necesare discutiile cum ca nu ai nevoie de 2parale pentru asta.
• … si cam atat

Tudor, OnlinersVSCorporate 2.0

Tudor Galos ne-a vorbit despre interactiunea dintre noi (onliners) si ei (corporatistii). Nu o sa insist foarte mult pe subiect pentru ca si eu sunt parte din zi corporatist si stiu cum merg anumite lucruri. Ce trebuie sa intelegem noi (si Tudor a incercat sa ne explice asta) este faptul ca vrem sau nu sa recunoastem avem nevoie unii de altii si nu o zic in sensul rau.

A facut foarte bine ca ne-a prezentat cateva tips & tricks pentru o interactiune mai buna intre onliner si corporatist, desi nu mi-a placut ca a trecut foarte repede prin buline (eram si in intarziere).

Tudor a mai prezentat rezultatele #tweetIE8 care din punctul meu de vedere a fost cea mai importanta parte din prezentarea lui. Cum se porneste o campanie de genul, cum sa ii definesti un scop clar, cum se selecteaza cei 8 “web celebs” cum le-au spus ei si despre cum au reusit sa scrie o carte folosind Twitter si comunitatea din Romania.

Bogdan, PR Ce si Cum

Bogdan Theodor Olteanu ne-a vorbit din punctul de vedere al unei agentii de PR, cum se interactioneaza cu o agentie si ce face agentia. Am invatat ceva foarte important si nu stiu daca Bogdan a vrut sa faca shareing sau i-a scapat

Agentia de PR in general incearca sa faca mai mult decat ii este stipulat in contract

El chiar are target pentru oamenii cu care lucreaza pe treaba asta. A reusit sa ne explice de ce este necesara si care sunt avantajele vizibilitatii online, desi este inclinata mai mult catre companii se poate aplica foarte usor si in alta parte.

Un alt aspect foarte important pe care il puncteaza Bogdan este persoana care trebuie. Am inteles si din cateva exemple date de ce este important sa vorbesti cu persoana care trebuie cand vrei sa initiezi o discutie. In anumite situatii este mult mai bine sa mergi direct la agentie decat la companie direct, pentru ca asa cum spuneam mai sus acestea incearca sa faca mai mult decat este scris in contract. Daca nu discuti cu persoana care trebuie risti sa o dai in bara aiurea si de aceea un alt aspect important punctat de Bogdan este documentarea. Trebuie sa invatam sa ne documentam, sa incercam sa aflam mai multe despre compania cu care vrem sa discutam, sa gasim agentia cu care lucreaza si sa incercam sa cautam persoana care trebuie pentru a initia un dialog.

Ce nu mi-a placut la Bogdan a fost faptul ca era foarte sincer atat de sincer ca se astepta de la noi sa cunostem concepte legate de PR si era foarte transant cand puneai o intrebare stupida din punctul lui de vedere.

Adrian, Lecturi Urbane si Contextul

Adrian Ciubotaru a incheiat seria de prezentari cu una dintre cele mai frumoase initiative sociale din Romania Lecturi Urbane. Adrian este cel mai urat vis pe care poti sa il ai datorita pasiunii cu care omul acesta vorbeste si face ceea ce face, dar in acelasi timp este cel mai frumos sentiment pe care il poti avea cand te gandesti ca si tu poti face ceva.

In spatele proiectului Lecturi Urbane Adrian a pus foarte multa pasiune si asta a incercat si el sa ne transmita, trebuie pasiune ca sa poti face ceva, nu se poate fara pasiune. Prin pasiune a reusit sa porneasca un trend care este deja un eveniment national.

Din povestea asta cum ii place lui sa spuna pe care ne-a prezentat-o am inteles ce inseamna contextul, am inteles de ce este important contextul si cum poti schimba o tara intreaga daca te folosesti de el. Exemplul dat de el este foarte clar: Cum poti sa convingi o tara intreaga sa citeasca si sa imbratiseze cultura? Este aproape imposibil am putea spune, dar ganditi-va cand mergeti la servici si in mijlocul de transport cand intri intr-o zi toata lumea citeste, ramai uimit incepi sa te intrebi ce se intampla, ce face lumea si de ce asa dintr-o data. Apoi vine cineva la tine sa iti explice si sa iti faca cadou o carte. Tu ca om cand cand esti intr-un context ai o alta inclintie (mai mare) catre acel context si iti este mult mai usor sa incerci sa schimbi ceva la tine.

Ce nu mi-a placut la Adrian este abilitatea lui de prezentator , ca sa explic mai bine, din punctul meu de vedere Adrian nu este o persoana care sa tina o prezentare, nu cred ca poate, are prea multe de spus si niciodata timp, este omul cu care trebuie sa ai o conversatie.

Concluzia Finala

Fiind primul meu blogtrip nu cred ca pot sa ma pronunt mai mult decat ce a fost prezentat aici la noi. Ii felicit pe organizatori pentru acest workshop si le multumesc. Ii felicit pe toti cei care au prezentat pentru pasiunea cu care fac lucrurile si pentru prezentarile foarte bine alese.

Ce a contat la fel de mult ca workshopul in sine a fost asa cum spune americanul si Tudor: networking, am cunoscut oameni noi si oameni cu care am interactionat doar prin intermediul internetului si ma bucur foarte mult cand ma gandesc ca mai exista si oameni ca ei.

Nu pot spune ca am iesit mai destept, acela care spune asta din punctul meu de vedere e clar ca nu a inteles nimic, ce pot spune este ca am iesit de acolo cu o alta perspectiva de explorat si asa cum spunea Dorin la un moment dat am inteles ca o sa descopar lucruri despre mine care nu or sa imi placa, dar astea inseamna maturizare nu? maturizare care poate sa dureze o viata.

Ce nu mi-a placut in toata povestea asta suntem noi, noi cei care parem interesati, dar viata merge inainte si cateodata e bine sa nu judecam pana nu suntem pusi in tema cu toate datele problemei. Nu mi-au placut discutiile pe langa subiect si ma refer aici la cele care erau cu adevarat pe langa subiect. Este una sa comentezi incercand sa faci o paralela sau sa explici folosind alte exemple si alte metode si este alta sa pornesti discutii care pur si simplul nu isi au rostul.

Acestea fiind spuse le multumesc inca odata organizatorilor si sper sa ne vedem si in alte circumstante.

Text Escaping Unescaping

For a project I worked a few months ago I needed to escape special characters used to pass some information from one point to another. Of course I used at that point the great application built by Marc called Unicode2HTML but I needed more than that. I wanted to convert also to other formats like \uXXXX or Punycode so after searching the net for a tool like that I found a very nice library built by Satorux called strutil.js.

The library actually does exactly what I wanted, it converts a character to a bunch of formats that I can use. The service Satorux has build, using this library, can be found at Text Escaping and Unescaping in JavaScript.

I decided to port this online version to an application so we can use it in offline also. This was a good project because it concluded to be my first Adobe AIR project (hope more will come).

I won’t make a tutorial on how to build an AIR app in this article because there is no point you can search the net for this kind of things and you will find dozens of great tutorials. But what I want to share with you is the application itself and the simplicity of the AUTO UPDATER Framework Adobe AIR has…

If need to check for a new update to my application all I need to do is to add this code in my page (HTML/Ajax version).

Behind the scenes the flow is quite easy the checkUpdate() function reads the update.xml file and compares the information from there with the current application version (located in application.xml), if a new version is available will prompt the updater Ui asking for permission to install the new version.

Photoshop Scripting

I needed one day to make a mirror effect (you know when you place two mirrors one in front of the other and look at them) for 50 photos and started to make them by hand in my PS. I soon give up because it was taking to long and tried to find a solution that will be more easy to use and more quicker. Lucky me that Adobe thought of this kind of problems and offers us two ways to solve this issue.

The Methods

The first one: ACTIONS are very easy to use directly from PS. No programming required, no nothing, just record what you want to do and then apply that steps to a bunch of photos.

Another way is to use SCRIPTING is PS to achieve our desired output. Basically PS let’s us use scripts to automate most of the processes that we make by hand.

A script is a series of commands that tells Photoshop to perform a set of specified actions, such as applying different filters to selections in an open document. These actions can be simple and affect only a single object, or they can be complex and affect many objects in a Photoshop document. The actions can call Photoshop alone or invoke other applications…

Why use scripts instead of actions?

First of all because this is what my article is about, scripting, but in a more serious manner we use scripts because they let use extend the great benefits of actions by allowing you to add functionality that is not available for PS Actions. For example, you can do the following with scripts but you can’t do it with actions:

• Conditional logic, very important if you need to take a decision based on your current situation. For example, you could write a script that decides which color border to add depending on the size of the selected area in an image.
• You can open, save, and rename files using scripts.
• You can copy scripts from one computer to another. If you were using an Action and then switched computers, you’d have to recreate the Action.
• A single script can perform actions that involve multiple applications. For example, depending on the scripting language you are using, you could target both Photoshop and another Adobe Creative Suite Application, such as Adobe Illustrator, in the same script.
• Scripts provide more versatility for automatically opening files. When opening a file in an action, you must hard code the file location. In a script, you can use variables for file paths.
• You can create minimalistic (or complex) forms to help you input your options or preferences.

Don’t get me wrong actions are not an obsolete feature, you need to know what you have to do first and according to each one’s limitation you can adopt a method or another.

Photoshop Scripting Languages

Photoshop supports 3 scripting languages: AppleScript, VBScript, and JavaScript. There are 3 of them because many reasons that I won’t talk about right now and because AppleScript and JavaScript runs on Mac OS and VBScript and JavaScript runs on Windows.

In our article we will use JavaScript. In PS in order for a JavaScript file to be recognized as a valid file it must have either .js or .jsx as an extension. It doesn’t matter which one but in Windows if your file has .jsx and you double click it will be automatically recognized by Photoshop, so it’s better to name this files with this extension format.

To execute a script directly from Photoshop just go to File \ Scripts \ Browse and select the file where the scripting was done. Another way to execute scripts is to place them in the PS folder PATH_TO_ADOBE_PS\Presets\Scripts\ and now your scripts will be automatically loaded and you can access them from File \ Scripts \.

How to make a Mirror Mirror Effect

First of all let’s create a file where we will code our script called: PSMirrorMirror.jsx Now we need to know what is the object model so we can work with it in Photoshop.

The Photoshop DOM consists of a hierarchical representation of the Photoshop application, the documents used in it, and the components of the documents. The DOM allows you to programmatically access and manipulate the document and its components. For example, through the DOM, you can create a new document, add a layer to an existing document, or change the background color of a layer. Most of the functionality available through the Photoshop user interface is available through the DOM.

Knowing this let’s take it step by step, what we need to do is a mirror mirror effect, for the simplicity of thing I’m just gonna imagine how I will do this by hand and then try to translate it into scripting.

1. Open the image in a new layer
2. Select all using CTRL+A
3. Copy the selection and paste it to create a new layer CTRL+C > CTRL+V
4. Resize the new layer to be smaller
5. Center in the middle of the document

Repeating this steps for each new layer we achieve the same effect as in the example above. Now let’s translate this into scripting.

We created a function caled createMirrorMirror and instanced 3 variables.

• docRef – is a reference to our active document from PS, with this we will be able to call other functions to manipulate that document.
• layerRef – is a reference to the active layer from our document, with this we will be able to resize only the layer from our active document.
• noOfMirrors – the number of mirrors we want to create inside our document.

No we need to create 5 layers (because our noOfMirrors is 5) with the same image and make them smaller just as we did in the previous steps by hand.

Using the docRef we call a function defined by the PS scripting API and simulate the CTRL+A effect using docRef.selection.selectAll(), we copy the contents and then paste it over the document. This will generate a new layer in PS with the same content as the source.

The next step is to resize the new layer and center it, and this is done by calling resize from our layer reference layerRef. The first two parameters are the percents for the the new size width and height, so enetering lower the 100% values will shrink the layer and bigger values will enlarge the layer. And the last one is the position of the new layer, in our case will be MIDDLECENTER.

All this is done 5 times in our for iteration and the resulted document will be a 5 layer document as above.

That is it, easy right? Actually is very easy to script using the Photoshop API and the results are very good once you get the hang of it.

The final script should look like this:

Now save this script in our PSMirrorMirror.jsx and you can call it every time you want from File \ Scripts \ Browse or copy the file to PATH_TO_ADOBE_PS\Presets\Scripts\ and you will be able to select it every time you need it from the Scripts menu.

2010 The year of the Tiger and Olympic competitions. Everybody is talking about 2009, what they have done, what were the most important aspects, innovations, most clicked posts on their blogs, and so on. As far as I am concern 2009 is was the year of learning and discovering. I have learned a lot as a developer and opened my mind more as a rookie designer.

Personally I don’t like to talk about the past regarding the achievements and failures on myself and my blog so I will spare you all from a long article that probably will be very boring.

As you can see I finally adopted the minimalistic trend that everyone is using and talking about this days. I know it took me one year to understand and see why this is better, although I don’t agree with the perception of this trend everybody is having, but this was the best pick that could fit to my current and future needs…

So I have dropped my two-column background theme and took a very light approach of showing the information. My sandbox theme is ProBlog Theme that I have modified very much to suite my needs. I have added some nice features and there are still more to come. I will also start a series of (tutorials) articles to show you how you can achieve some of the design features that I have implemented here.

I paid a little more attention (there are still more to do) to typography and I’ve set the most used font on the web as the main display; ignored “one rule” in web-design and the font family is now

Helvetica Neue, Arial, Sans-Serif

Anchor styles were also updated

Admin comments as a personal touch

And some other typography stuff

Other improvements and features that were made

• tweaks on the server side for faster loads
• better cache system for faster loads
• twitter status
• top link after scrolling the page
• new nextgen and highslide integration scripts
• smooth scroll plugin
• mobile version of the blog

This are only a few of the new things I’ve added and I want to add more to my blog. I will try to make them one by one in the following weeks. So stay tuned for new articles, tutorials and new features.

Chalenge your brain

This year I want to start and put in motion some of my old ideas and also some new ones. I won’t detail here because this is not the case, the main thing is that you all should put your ideas in practice no matter how crazy or useful they are. Manny new stuff can be learned and new skills developed and old ones strengthened by starting to work on a crazy idea.

New challenging projects will be this year, some of them already started to catch a breeze of air. The web is changing more and more, and this year won’t be very much different. We will see that the main accent will be put on simplicity and social integration. Taking this into consideration new challenging projects will give us more headaches.

Iconitele “specialistilor” te jeneaza la ochi foarte mult cand le vezi asa turtite, parca ma uit la Plasma lui Dorel care nu prinde decat semnal 4:3 in Romania si toti au fetele turtite si fundurile latite. Toate acestea se datoreaza unei linii in scriptul CSS care defineste o inaltime fixa pentru zona respectiva.

Astfel o simpla imagine poate fi distorsionta si poate strica aspectul site-ului. Este adevarat ca nu multi observa aceste detalii, dar de ce nu se pot rezolva aceste bug-uri mici? Din experienta mica pe care o mai am tot ce pot sa va spun este ca in general la genul acesta de site-uri cu “roti mari” este ceva normal sa fie asa. De ce spun asta, pentru ca la un astfel de site sunt probabil cateva zeci de oameni care lucreaza. Mai mult ca sigur acestia sunt impartiti in 3 categorii: cei care deseneaza site-ul, cei care incearca sa il programeze cum l-au desenat altii si acele persoane care insereaza continutul site-ului (fie el text, imagine sau video). Ei bine aceste 3 categorii de oameni rareori se inteleg intre ei si cum rotile sunt mari se invart mai greu rezultand astfel genul acesta de neconcordante daca pot sa le zic asa la nivel visual asupra site-ului.

Practic daca developer-ul ar sterge linia cu pricina din CSS totul ar fi rezolvat:

Dar daca user-ul ar insera iconitele in formatul agreat (sa presupunem ca s-au inteles asupra acestui fapt) am rezolva problema mai repede!

Mai repede? Aici este problema este mai usor sa faci din programare site-ul astfel incat totul sa fie acoperite si genul acesta de situatii chiar daca un user nu stie sa foloseasca sistemul sau il foloseste gresit? Sau este mai usor, cost-effective sau cum mai vreti sa faci un user sa foloseasca sistemul corect?

In general schimbarea mentalitatilor este mult mai dificila ca programarea unui sistem care sa faca respectiva treaba, dar in acelasi timp sa acoperi toate aceste scapari ale user-ului din programare poate fi mult mai costisitoare si pot impinge un proiect peste deadline. Astfel ca in general la marile companii si la site-urile mari se trage o linie unde deasupra se pun acele Must Have si sub linie acele aspecte de care se pot lipsii.

Eu personal sunt impotriva acestor practici si prefer acea calea de echilibru (nu de mijloc) in care faci din programare totul sa fie cat mai usor de folosit pentru user, iar user-ul face tot posibilul sa inteleaga sistemul inainte sa il foloseasca. Este foarte greu sa ajungi aici recunosc, dar aceste aspect cred ca face diferenta intre un site/o echipa buna si una foarte buna.

Sincer sa fiu nu stiu cum de suntem si noi pe acolo, sunt altii care au fost mult mai activi ca noi si sper sa ia toti un premiu pentru efortul depus pana acum. Le multumim totusi celor care s-au gandit si la noi si sper sa ne vedem acolo Pana atunci nu uitati sa cititi blogul 34Life.org

Punctul de intalnire cu Paul este intrarea in parc langa biserica de lemn. [ harta ]

Punctul de intalnire cu Radu este intrarea in parc de langa magazinul Plus. [ harta ]

» Parcul Ursu (Valea Cetatii) – Simona Alexandrescu, Simona Gaureanu si Dan Fulea

2. Ce Plantam?

In toate cele 4 parcuri plantam in total 400 de pomisori. Din care 200 Malini si 200 de arbusti ornamentali. Ca sa explicam mai bine ce inseamna arbusti ornamentali va informam ca o sa plantam: Photinia Fraseri (Red Robin) si Spiraea

Da, Firefox are cea mai mare cota de piata oare unde am fost pana acum??? Si da un motiv bun pentru a folosii class in loc de id este faptul ca functioneaza la fel.
